A brief history and background of Yateley

Yateley occupies the north-east corner of Hampshire and has seen rapid development as a town over the past two decades, creating an interesting mixture of old and new.

With a population of approximately 23,000, it has developed around the central Yateley Green where many activities take place, including Cricket, Football and local events such as the Yateley Fireworks Fiesta and the May Fair Yateley has three Health Centres, a Library and many schools within it's boundary. This boundary covers the area of Darby Green, Frogmore, part of Blackwater and Blackbushe Airport. Within this area there are the community centres of Yateley and Frogmore which have very good sports amenities, these are shared by the local schools.

There is also the Monteagle Community Centre on the Monteagle Estate, which incidentally is named after Monteagle house, this was supposed to be the residence of Lord Monteagle who foiled Guy Fawkes and the Gun Powder Plot.

Yateley has many open area's which include Yateley Common Country Park, Castle Bottom Nature Reserve and the Tri Lakes Nature Reserve.
