Yateley Lions Fund 110 Vital PSA Tests
Early Screening Saves Lives in the Local Community
Yateley & District Lions Club, a proud part of Lions Clubs International—the world’s largest volunteer organisation—is delighted to announce the successful completion of a major local health initiative that has provided 110 crucial PSA tests for men in and around Yateley.
The campaign, focused on supporting men’s health and the early detection of prostate cancer, offered local residents a simple, accessible way to understand their personal risk status. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, and early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.
The Results: 110 Tests, 10 Lives Potentially Impacted
The impact of the Yateley Lions’ funding is clear in the results. Out of the 110 tests sponsored by the club, the outcomes were categorised as follows:
- Green (Low Risk):88 tests.
- Amber (Medium Risk):12 tests.
- Red (High Risk):10 tests.
While it is excellent news that 88 men received a low-risk result, the most critical achievement is the identification of 22 men who received an Amber or Red result. These individuals are now able to seek immediate medical advice and follow-up care, ensuring that potential issues are caught at the earliest, most treatable stage.
“Funding local events and these 110 PSA tests is exactly why the Yateley Lions Club exists. The statistics speak for themselves: we have helped 10 men identify a high-risk situation, giving them the priceless gift of early knowledge,” said Paul Spencer, Welfare Officer for Yateley & District Lions Club. “This project directly impacts our community’s health and well-being, and we are incredibly proud of the difference this event has made. Our thanks go to Graham Fulford Charitable Trust and everyone who supports our fundraising efforts, which makes vital initiatives like this possible.”
A Commitment to Community Health
Prostate cancer testing is one of the key health focus areas for Lions Clubs International worldwide. The success of this local campaign is a testament to the dedication of the Yateley & District Lions Club volunteers and the generosity of the local community.
The Yateley Lions will continue to serve local causes and support global efforts focusing on sight, hunger and the environment.
The success of the PSA testing initiative—and all the vital work we do—is only possible because of our dedicated volunteers.
- We can’t raise money without members: Every penny we donate to the community, whether for life-saving screenings or local support, comes from the fundraising efforts of our Lions. Simply put, more members mean more funds to help our community.
- We need volunteers to run our events: From running stalls at the Yateley May Fayre to coordinating our charity drives, our events rely entirely on people donating their time. Your skills and enthusiasm are essential to making these events successful and fun!
