Yateley Scout presentation World Scout Jamboree 2023

We welcomed a Yateley Scout to our April meeting and were treated to an informative presentation. This young lady had quite the adventure in 2023 when she traveled to South Korea to attended the 25th World Scout Jamboree!

Yateley Lions had made a donation to this young scout from Yateley, who had been busy fundraising to enable her to go on this trip. The 2023 Jamboree was held in SaeManGeum, Jeollabuk-do, Republic of Korea. She had worked very hard to achieve her funding,  and she has been volunteering for us and will be helping us again at our May Fayre this year.

Nobody could have envisaged what she would have to face when she arrived, together with her thousands of fellow scouts. We were very pleased they arrived home safely.

Despite having faced many unprecedented challenges, these thousands of youngsters from across the globe, who had never met one another, managed to learn from their experience, and many still managed to enjoy their time together united. She shared her personal experiences, and some photos she had managed to take when her phone was coping with the heat.

Sat there listening to her retell her experiences let us see how much this young lady had benefitted from the trip, and learned many valuable lessons that she will be able to carry through life. She certainly learned that she was more resilient than she thought.

We were grateful to her mum, who had accompanied her, and we are sure it was a very worrying time for her, but how proud she must be of her daughter.
